Gautama Buddha was born in the house of king Shuddhodhana of Ikshvaku dynasty in 563 BC. His mother’s name was Mahamaya. Just after seven days of his birth, mother breathed her last. After this he was brought up by his mother’s sister named Mahaprajapati Gautami. Gautam Buddha was a person leaned towards spiritualism from his very childhood and because of this; he became a monk at the age of 30. He was enlightened after years of penance under the Bodhi tree at Bodh Gaya and since then people called him as Lord Buddha.

At that time Buddhism was enclosed to India and Nepal only, but Emperor Ashoka tried to spread it all over the world. Currently, Lord Buddha is worshiped not only in India and Nepal, but throughout the world apart from Asia. A large number of people use to come to Bodh Gaya, in Bihar to view and get blessings of Lord Buddha. Bodhgaya Temple

Bodhgaya is the holiest place for followers of Buddhism. At this place Lord Buddha was enlightened. That is why this this place is very blest. Even today the Bodhi tree is lying in the courtyard of the temple. Though, it is numbered four in generation. A per history, an attempt was made to destroy the Bodhi tree twice while at the same time, it was once destroyed due to natural disaster. This temple was built by Emperor Ashoka. You must visit Bodh Gaya to see Lord Buddha and get his blessings.

Sarnath Temple, Varanasi

Lord Buddha preached first time at this place and hence it is considered a pious place for people who believe in Buddhism. Emperor Ashoka built this temple too. There are Chaukhandi Stupa along with Moolagandha Kuti Vihar, Dhamekh Stupa and Dharmarajika Stupa too.

This Mahaparinirvana temple is located at Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh.There is a 6 feet tall statue of Buddha in the temple which is always covered by a chunari. Only the face of the idol can be seen. This temple is a sacred place for the visitors of the country and abroad, because Gautama Buddha himself breathed his last at this place. A grand construction of the temple has been done here by one of his disciple named Swami Haibala with red sandstone. You must visit Mahaparinirvana temple to see Lord Buddha.
